Up to now, ITZY has four mini-albums, “IT’Z ICY”, “IT’z ME”, “NOT SHY” and “GUESS WHO”. “CRAZY IN LOVE” is their first full-length album which preserves their flirty touch by mixing sounds from different genres as funk, hip hop, and pop, showing us a new facet.
K-magazine: What was the most fun part of recording this new album, CRAZY IN LOVE?
YEJI: I was directed to sound as if I was a little angry, so I had to shout and scream before starting recording to make that mood.
CHAERYEONG: Also, it was such a great experience as I got to record different styles of music, I could listen to other members’ various voice colors while recording, too.
K-magazine: Do you have a favorite song in CRAZY IN LOVE?
YUNA: I like Sooo LUCKY the best. The lyrics and the message of the song are so lovely and it reminds me of MIDZY. It’s a song we recorded with MIDZY on our minds, I’m emotionally attached to it.
RYUJIN: Personally I like Gas Me Up the best, I like that the beat is quite minimal and trendy. I also think the rap part expresses our confidence well, so the song aligns with me the most.
K-magazine: You surprised us with your latest album in English. Are you planning to do something in Spanish for the Latin market too?
YEJI: I’d like to if I get the opportunity! I think the song will give off a different vibe with a different language. Thinking of MIDZY who use Spanish and how they’d like it, I’d like to try one day!
K-magazine: Would you like to have any collaborations with Latin artists? With who?
LIA: Shakira! Her voice is extremely attractive, and the energy of her stage is so healthy and beautiful! She’s so cool.
K-magazine: What do you like the most about being Itzy?
LIA: The fact that we have MIDZY! Our adorable fans as well as the people that support us.
RYUJIN: I think we are a group that is always trying new things, so getting to try different concepts is the best part.
K-magazine: Also, you’re fashion icons, and now you’re the first K-pop girl band to be an ambassador for the international brand Maybelline New York. How do you feel about it?
LIA: Seems like K-Culture is getting acknowledged along with K-Pop so I feel proud, and it’s an honor and joy that I can be a part of it!
K-magazine: Many of your fans in México and South America love your choreographies and work very hard to be professionals like you. Can you share any advice for them?
CHAERYEONG: I’m grateful that our fans like the dance! We often watch the fans’ dance cover videos, it’s so good to see them having a fun time with our dances! Thank you so much for all interest, and it’d be awesome if you could continue to enjoy our dances!
K-magazine: You belong to one of the great entertainment companies, what is the biggest lesson you have had in your training?
YUNA: The importance of self-care, not settling, and willingness to learn.
K-magazine: When this pandemic situation is finally over, which countries would like to visit first?
YEJI: I want to go see every MIDZY in different countries when this pandemic gets better, so it’s tough to choose one. I miss them and want to see them all so much because we miss the voices of MIDZY when we were on the stage.
K-magazine: Finally, would you like to send some words for your fans in México and Latinoamerica, and invite them to watch this interview?
LIA: Our MIDZY, we miss you all so much. We will go see you soon when things get better, so please stay safe and enjoy our music and contents prepared for you. Hope your life gets a little better through us.
