Seoul, South Korea. It’s been six years since we saw Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu compete on the reality show SIXTEEN for the chance of winning a place in one of the most important female groups of all time, TWICE.

Under JYP Entertainment, each of the members went from rookies to worldwide artists. Going beyond borders and taking Korea’s name up high, TWICE and Kpop go from East to West taking the hearts of each of their followers with their music, lyrics, amazing and synchronized choreography, charm and overflowing happiness displayed on stage.

Since their debut in October 2015 with “Like OHH-AHH”, which is part of their first mini album The Story Begins, TWICE cemented the beginnings of their formula for success.

A year later, singles such as “Cheer Up” and “TT” launched them into a global phenomenon. And, as if that wasn’t enough, their japanese debut had them take 3 platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

TWICE was also awarded for “Song of the Year” and “Best Female Group” at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Their music and diligence led them to be placed on the most important music charts in the world: ITunes, Spotify, Billboard and Oricon. The list of awards and recognitions is growing and it seems no one will be able to stop them.

This year, after their sixth anniversary, the girls officially debuted in the American market. Within hours “The feels” was added to the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a piece that emerges from the new studio album Formula of Love: O + T = <3.

With this new achievement in their career, K-magazine had the opportunity to interview TWICE and thus remember the great moments we had during their last visit to Mexico.

K-MAGAZINE EXCLUSIVE

K-magazine: First, congratulations on your sixth anniversary.  Six years of achievements and many successes, world tours, in addition to being considered one of the most important girl bands of this generation. Can you share with us how you feel about it?

– DAHYUN: Thank you! We are always thankful to ONCE for making our last 6 years journey so full of wondrous moments. Our members all feel as though we have grown as a person and as a group together by being TWICE, and we will keep on working hard to return the tremendous amount of love that we have received from our fans and the world.

K-magazine: During this year, what have you loved the most about working together?

– MINA: We enjoyed the little but precious moments when we were able to perform for our fans. I’m starting to feel like there’s an end to this tunnel we’ve come through with the COVID-19 situation, which gives me hope that there will be more opportunities for us to meet with our fans.

K-magazine: Are there any friendship lessons that you would like to share with ONCE?

– JEONGYEON: You don’t have to have a huge number of friends! Having even just one person who completely trusts and understands you will make your life full of happiness.

K-magazine: You surprised us with your amazing debut with the first English single “The Feels”. Congratulations for getting to be on the Billboard Hot 100! What was the funniest thing you did when recording “The Feels”?

– MOMO: Thank you! I can’t remember any funny happenings during the recording process of “The Feels,” since I remember being nervous and extra serious to make our first full English single as perfect as it can be.

K-magazine: What were you doing when you found out about the entry to the Hot 100 and how did you feel?

– JIHYO: I can’t exactly remember what I was doing at that moment, but I definitely remember my emotions. My mind was full of questions like “is this true?” “is it really our song that is on the chart?” It was a mind-blowing, unreal experience.

Concept queens: TWICE LOVE LAB

Through the years, TWICE has proved their musical versatility: creating memorable moments in each MV. This years wasn’t the exception for we saw their maturity in “Perfect World”, passing to a relaxing summer during “Alcohol Free”, taking us to party with “The Feels”, and now the mystery is back for “Formula of Love: O + T = <3” in which we see them as scientists with 17 hints for this latest release.

K-magazine: Twice is one of those bands that gives us many very brilliant comebacks. You are now working on a new album,  “Formula of Love: O+T=<3″, can you tell us what will we see in this new comeback? How would you want to surprise us this time?

– TZUYU: First of all, you’ll be surprised to see that there are so many great tracks on the album. We tried new attempts like releasing unit tracks with only 3 members recording one song. Members have also participated in composing and songwriting, so please look out for them!

K-magazine: What is your favorite song from “Formula of Love: O+T=<3″?

– JEONGYEON: My favorite song is “HELLO (NAYEON, MOMO, CHAEYOUNG)”. It’s very catchy and is a style that TWICE has never tried before. You can also hear members’ rapping in the song.

K-magazine: From all the concepts that you have tried during these 6 years of your career, which one has been your favorite?

– MINA: I personally would like to pick “CRY FOR ME” as my favorite concept. It was so different from the styles that TWICE members have tried before, and ONCEs were very supportive of this new concept.

K-magazine: Many of TWICE’s songs make us feel happy when we are sad, they are very funny and others are very beautiful. Which one of the songs that you have written is your favorite?

– DAHYUN: I have affection towards every single track I’ve composed, but I like “QUEEN” and “CRUEL.” “CRUEL” is a new track in this upcoming album, so I hope ONCEs will have a blast listening to it!

K-magazine: Which is your biggest motivation to get through hard days?

– MINA: I look at other artists’ performances or stages to get motivation to work hard and be as powerful as them. Through this process, I also get inspiration for TWICE’s performance ideas.

K-magazine: What advice would you give to ONCE?

– NAYEON: There are definitely times when you might be feeling down or sad. Whenever those moments come, don’t hesitate and turn on TWICE’s songs that can cheer you up and make you feel ready to go back on your feet again!

K-magazine: What concept would you like to try out in your next comeback?

– TZUYU: I would like to try a concept that brings energy and joy to people. During these hard times, we really need some kind of joy and happiness in our lives, so I hope TWICE’s music can become a medium for happiness.

K-magazine: You have also announced a tour very soon, can you tell us how it feels like to return to the stage and see your fans closely?

– DAHYUN: Just thinking about it makes me so excited and want to meet ONCEs up close. Because it will be a moment where every single member of TWICE and ONCE has been waiting for such a long time, we’ll be able to share so many feelings and make beautiful memories that we can keep for a long time.

K-magazine: Will this tour include Mexico and Latin America?

– JIHYO: It’s uncertain at the moment, since we are not 100% sure how the situation will turn out. However, all members of TWICE are waiting for the day when we can visit Mexico and Latin America to meet our fans there!

K-magazine: Spanish is on-trend, many idols have songs in Spanish like Kard, Super junior, Chung Ha, and D.O (Exo). Would you like to release a song totally in Spanish?

– CHAEYOUNG: If there’s an opportunity for us to do so and if we find the perfect song to record in Spanish, we would definitely want to!

K-magazine: Which Latino artist would you like to collaborate with?

– SANA: Becky G! When I was getting my rap training back when I was a trainee, I practiced with Becky G’s songs. I would feel honored to collaborate with Becky G in one of TWICE’s songs.

K-magazine: How did you feel when you found out that you had a large group of fans outside of Asia?

– JEONGYEON: These days, I’m watching a lot of ONCEs through YouTube. There are so many wonderful covers done by our fans both inside and outside of Asia, which always makes me feel extremely grateful.

Latin Power in the house

2019 was a special year for TWICE as the girls took off their first world tour. This gave Mexico the opportunity of listening and witnessing up close a great show.

Thus, before 11 thousand audience members, the girl group became a sensation making many of their Latin American fans hoarse at Palacio de los Deportes. Therefore, we couldn’t stop ourselves from asking about this iconic moment:

K-magazine: We witnessed your concert in Mexico. And it was spectacular to see all the ONCE Latinos. How did you feel when you got on stage in Mexico City and saw that the arena was full?

– SANA: Even though Mexico is so far away distance-wise and is in a place where we can’t visit often, it was, and still is, so thankful to know that there are people interested in TWICE sending so much love to us. I felt like I wanted to visit Mexico City more often. The energy that Latin American ONCEs possessed made us so enthusiastic.

K-magazine: Which was your favorite food that you ate in Mexico?

– MOMO: I had a blueberry pancake for brunch. The taste still lingers on my tongue. I can’t wait to go back and try it again.

K-magazine: Would you like to do concerts in Mexico and Latin America when the restrictions end and what countries would you like to visit?

– CHAEYOUNG: Of course! I would love to revisit Mexico, since the last time we were there, we did not have much time to explore and experience the life and culture. I’m even planning to visit for a vacation once everything returns to normal.

K-magazine: Lastly, would you like to send a final message to your fans?

– DAHYUN: TWICE is returning with the 3rd Full Album <Formula of Love: O+T=<3>. We hope you enjoy this album and hope that we can perform without any restriction. Please stay safe and let’s send off 2021 with a blast!

On Friday, TWICE released their 3th full length album “Formula of Love: O+T=<3>”. The preorders reached 700,000 units, selling approximately 200,000 copies more than their previous EP “Taste of Love”. You can listen to it here:
